Trend scanning is one of the most essential steps in thinking about the future. But right now, as communities confront the Corona virus pandemic, we can be overwhelmed by the pace and scale of change happening across sectors. New signals are emerging that point to how trends might accelerate and decelerate to change our world. As we look for guidance and information to address immediate reopening plans, this time can also provide indicators of what will come next for six months, for a year, for longer. This session will highlight some of the changes revealing themselves through this pandemic and provide some insight for near- and long-term planning.

Interactive Share and Tell - Attendees will contribute to a collaborative trend scan. Each individual will be asked to bring a "signal of the future" - an article, an object, a photo, an anecdote, anything that they feel conveys a recent change or development that has implications for the future. Attendees will be invited to present their "signal" to the group and explain how or why it has helped them start to think in a new direction for the future. Individuals may also choose to contribute their "signal" to the chat stream.

Panel Reflection - Colorado library leaders Michelle Jeske, Dustin Fife, and others will participate in a panel reflection: sharing how their futures thinking is proceeding during this pandemic, what signals they are focused on right now, and how they think of the future development of libraries in our state.
